As a reductive painter my work addresses formal concerns traditionally explored within painting. My work is inspired by my love of paint and beauty in unexpected places.
My paintings explore relationships between varying formal elements both internally, within the work and externally within the expanded field of location, built environment and spectator.
My Large scale site specific, instillation paintings are built in response to location. The form and composition are dictated and inspired by existing structures. The colour palettes are developed around found colours within the area local to the work. Through this way of working I strive to develop a symbiotic relationship between site and work that ultimately allows the spectator to experience the work with ease, it is the spectator's response to the work that imbues its meaning.
My Paintings on paper are exploratory studies of colour and shape inspired by the urban environment. These paintings develop formal themes through the use of limited colour pallets and are often developed through repetition over multiple supports. The thick handmade paper on which I paint gives the work a physicality that contrast with the flat areas of painted colour.
