‘Public Participation’ is a large scale guerrilla painting instillation. The site specific piece was installed on the edge of the London Olympic Park in January 2012. The back drop to the work is the, historic local canal, one of many that weaves through the historic East end of London. Also in sight is the much debated Anish Kapoor sculpture ‘Orbit ‘ and the Olympic stadium.
The ‘Public Participation’ was the culmination of a five year live/work residency with the local,ACME studios. The painting, acrylic on MDF, formally response to the surrounding colour pallet. The intention is that the work would sit restfully within the environment giving the impression of belonging.
The title ‘Public Participation’ is an ironic comment on how preparations for the games has affected the ‘Public’ living around the area. It is also a literal references to my ‘uninvited’ contribution to the Olympic festivity’s.
All though some of the panels have subsequently been removed by over eager officials clearing the area, I’m happy to say that most of the piece has remained intact and is even giraffe free.
