‘Body’s in Motion’ was a Bow Arts project lead by artist Emily Tracey and assisted by myself. This week long project saw student in year 5&6 at St Luke’s primary school (E14), creating life-sized puppets, working in willow, wire, Polystyrene, tape and tissue and other found objects.
Children started by making life size skeletal drawings and smaller individual Marquette’s to explore scale and proportion. Working in small groups pupils then built individual body parts (designed by Emily) developing there 3D skills and knowledge of materials. Once assembled these parts came together to create six jointed, moving figures. Children were encouraged to think about how their creations related to movements within Olympic sporting events. The life-sized puppets where displayed in the entrance way of the school, ready to greet visitors to the school’s sports day.
