Making Good Making Do; considers Market Estates surfaces, additions and intervention as a narrative, a record of passing time and of the people that have passed through.
The piece embraces the concerns traditionally associated with painting but challenges the frame work within which these relationships are explored. Instead of being restricted, within a single canvas, multiple three dimensional, surfaces become the compositional elements; the ‘location’ in the broader sense becomes the frame.
The spectator must move through the piece in order to fully experience it, leading the viewer through space. The aim of the work is to directly engage the spectator in order to elicit a response. The quality of these encounters ultimately imbues the meaning.
